1.2 ~ Starting Again

When Alex woke up she was in a big white room. Outside was the faint noise of sirens. She knew where she was.









Those last moments before she lost conciousness played in her mind the like a film...
   She had stepped out the car to find her chances of a happy life being swept away. Then her lungs filled up with the smokey air. She had started to cough, spluttering. Then...That was all that she remembered.
   Suddenly, the door opened and a woman came in. She had dark hair pulled back tightly into a bun. "Hello,Miss Tanaberry" said the woman with a cheery smile. "I'm glad to see your feeling better.
   "Whats wrong with me?" Alex asked puzzled. She hopped it wasn't serious.
   "I'm afraid that you inhaled quite a lot of smoke from the fire" said the nurse."But" she said her face looking happier,"You will recover". Alex felt an instant smile on her face. Things were going her way...
   It was 1 month since Alex had been let out of hospital. The first few steps of fresh air outside felt like she was experiencing air for the first time.
   Alex had rented a small apartment (with help from her parents) and had got a job at the bookstore. Her lifetime wish would have to wait. The hospital had advised her to take daily walks, so she could breathe more easily.
   Alex loved the park. There were so many happy faces, it felt easy to make friends. One day Alex wasn't looking were she was going and bumped into someone. She looked up and it was a man with short brown hair,pale skin and shiny blue eyes.
   "Errr, I'm sorry!" said Alex blushing.
   "It's okay,I'm sorry too,whats your name?" he asked.
   "Alex,Alex Tanaberry"Alex muttered.
   "I like that name, my name is Lee Parkinson," he said staring into Alex's eyes,and before they both knew what they were doing...they kissed.

1.1 ~ Calm before Fire

Alex's yellow taxi passed under the bridge and the dazziling lights of Bridport were visable to Alex for the first time. She looked around her. Cafes and Clubs. Even Celebrities were here. 'This is were I belong...' Alex said to herself.

   Ever since Alex was young, she wanted to be famous but never really discovered what for. It was only in High School that she realised what she wanted to be. An Interior Designer and she wanted to become famous in Bridgport, where Celebrities walked the streets everyday.
   Suddenly, a huge gleaming fire truck came zooming round the corner and overtook Alex's cab. She sniffed the air. There was a faint smokey smell, like if someone had burnt the burgers on a barbacue. But worse. As the faint memories of flames came drifting back to Alex a small tear came down her cheak.
   When Alex was 5 and her sister Tasha was 7,Charlotte, the eldest was 7. That night her dad was cooking and he started a fire. Alex and Tasha were in the kitchen and ran straight outside but Charlotte was unaware. In the end, by the time the firefighters had got upstairs, she was dead. The worst thing of all was that, that day was Alex's Birthday. 
   The taxi then stopped. Alex was brought back to reality. She turned to look at the small cottage she had rented but then it hit her. Hard. The cottage she had spent all her savings on was ablaze. That  was the fire. She sat there, watching her chances of a happy life, being blown away into the ashes.
   Alex got out, but stopped unable to face it. Where was she going to live? On an empty plot of land!? She looked around, breathing in the smokey smell. She coughed, spluttering breathing it in. She gasped for help. Shouting at the top of her lungs. People ran over but it was too late, she couldn't breathe...

  In the first generation we meet Alex. Unwanted by her parents and cheated on by her boyfriend it was no suprise that she moved at 18. Now in a new town with no friends reality hits home.
